WERTHEIM NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
is one of the last undeveloped estuary systems remaining on Long Island. Half of the refuge consists of aquatic habitats including bay with marine seagrass beds, intertidal saltmarsh, high saltmarsh, freshwater marsh, shrub swamp. More info/photos

WERTHEIM NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

Riverhead
WILDWOOD STATE PARK
  comprises 600 acres of undeveloped hardwood forest terminating on the high bluff overlooking Long Island Sound. Trailer and tent sites are available for campers. Swimmers can take advantage of the cool waters of the Sound, Visitors can fish and use the hiking and cross-country ski trails. More info/photos

STATE PARK

Noyack
ELIZABETH A. MORTON WILDLIFE REFUGE
  has a hiking trial that will border along Noyack creek and take you to Noyack bay. A187-acre Refuge, diverse habitats including bay beach, a brackish pond, a freshwater pond, kettle holes, tidal flats, saltmarsh, freshwater marsh, shrub, grasslands. More info/photos

ELIZABETH A. MORTON WILDLIFE REFUGE

Southampton
MOUNTAIN LAUREL LOOP TRAIL
is 2.75 miles hike.. Hike this trail in mid-June to see the mountain laurel in full bloom. A beautiful park/trail with kettle pools and dense vegetation. A trail map is available at the Southampton Trails Preservation Society. More info/photos

HUBBARD COUNTY PARK
has a 5.75 mile trail that will take about 3 hours to complete. This trail will take you on a tour of a park that has salt flats, marshes, beach, and woods where you can enjoy the local flowers and birds. More info/photos
