SOUTHAVEN COUNTY PARK offers fishing, row boating, horseback riding, camping for tent and trailers, and picnic areas .cross-country skiing and hiking along the Carmen's River which flows through this scenic, pine oak forested park. SOUTHAVEN COUNTY PARK

Oakdale 
BAYARD CUTTING ARBORETUM has 5 nature trails and is located on the Connetquot River. 690 acres of lawns and open meadows, a wildflower garden, a marshy refuge, and many paths. Waterfowl can be seen on the river along with an active Osprey nest. good bird watching location.

Kings Park 
SUNKEN MEADOW STATE PARK
has six miles of trails, including the northern starting point of the Suffolk County Greenbelt Trail fronting on Long Island Sound The three miles of beach.
Activities include swimming in Long Island Sound; hiking ; biking, horseback riding, picnicking, fishing and cross-country skiing. In addition, the park has three 9-hole golf courses, a driving range and putting green. Kayaking at field 3 with permit (no charge-park office). More info/photos

West Hempstead 
HEMPSTEAD LAKE STATE PARK
has bridle trails for horse back riding, biking and hiking trails. 20 tennis courts, children's playgrounds, shaded picnic. A picnic pavilion is available for large parties. For fresh water fishing the state requires a license to angle for trout, large mouth bass as well as many others can be found at Hempstead Lake. More info/photos

HEMPSTEAD LAKE STATE PARK

N Massapequa 
MASSAPEQUA PRESERVE
is a long thin Preserve that runs from Merrick Road to Linden Blvd. on the Northern end. It is a wooded area that surrounds a stream. There are two paths. One path is the Greenbelt Trail located through the woodland. The other is along the bicycle path which follows the stream and around the ponds.
